I wouldn’t be surprised at that actually Allan as when they first came on the market we had quite a few failures on the forum here and nearly all were down to failing drives. Just completed my testing with a friends WD usb drive and it is working OK on my system. If not the circuit board we had quite a few where the cable end plug wasn’t going deep enough to make a connection. Thanks for your help with this I rebuilt my old system today and when I tried my USB drive on this sysem it also failed.

And guess what it works!! I have now come to the conclusion that my USB drive is broken! So problem is with my drive or so I thought!
As you said though for a couple of quid it’s worth trying anyway. Try it and come back here for comments.

Hi Allanm, I find ya-z68ap-d3 article, Review: Have tried all usb2 and usb3 ports all give the same result. To confirm this is the case my friend who is visiting at the weekend is bring his drive Same type and model as mine to put on to my system. Please do let us know the outcome though. Thanks for your help with this Is the problem that the motherboard isn’t seeing the drive on bootup ga-z68ap-3d is it not finding it during a Windows session as well?

Come back here for other comments. I can only conclude that the fault is in the USB circuit boardbut on the up side I have an additional GB drive in my system.

December 06, It’s worth a try Allanm but of course a Y splitter will only increase the current capacity not the voltage as it will just supply two lots of the same volts. Decided to test the drive ga-68ap-d3 by gjgabyte it from the casingremoving the small circuit board that connects to a standard SATA and power connection on the drive WD Scorpio Blue and installed it in my system.
